In an essential move to fight against the spread of COVID-19, on 20 March 2020, Grenada suspended the submission of hard copies of applications and announced it would be accepting electronic submissions until further notice. Following this decision, Grenada has now applied the following temporary adjustments to documentary requirements to ease processing for applicants further:
1. Applicants may utilise lawyers or legal consultants to certify documents as true copies.
Note that said lawyer or legal consultant must have seen the original document and must be licensed to practice in the country in which the document is being certified.
2. Applicants may utilise Local Agents approved by the Government of Grenada to certify documents as true copies.
Note that said Local Agent must have seen the original document via Skype or another online platform and must be licensed to practice as a Notary Public in Grenada. Local Agents are not, however, permitted to certify documents for their own citizenship by investment clients.
3. HIV tests will be accepted up to three months past their usual three-month validity period.
4. Police Certificates will be accepted up to three months past their usual three-month validity period, except where the Police Certificate has a specified validity period.
What does this update mean for me?
Grenada is cognisant of the fact that certification of documents may be difficult for certain individuals at this point in time, and that expiration of documents is now more likely given the current situation in which we find ourselves. For one, even sending documents across borders could take several weeks more than expected.
The adjustments made by Grenada ensure that applications are affected as little as possible by any lockdown measures applicants are subject to. It should be noted that the adjustments are envisioned as temporary and that Grenada reserves the right to require physical copies of all forms and documents at a later date,
