North Macedonia Citizenship by Investment Programme to Start Soon

North Macedonia is seeking to attract international talents and investors to fuel its local economy with the launch of the North Macedonia Economic Investment Citizenship Programme.

The country will therefore position itself as Europe’s latest to implement an economic citizenship programme but will keep it capped at 1,000 applications.

Officially known as the Republic of North Macedonia, the country is located in the south-central Balkans. It is bordered to the north by Kosovo and Serbia, to the east by Bulgaria, south by Greece, and the west by Albania. North Macedonia is a member of the UN, NATO, the Council of Europe, the World Bank, the Central European Free Trade Agreement, and the Worth Trade Organisation. North Macedonia is an upper-middle-income country and has undergone considerable reform since independence in developing an open economy. The Republic provides social security, a universal healthcare system, and free primary and secondary education to its citizens.

The population of just above two million enjoy the country’s more than 50 lakes and 34 mountains higher than 2,000 metres. North Macedonia has the fifth-highest average elevation of any country in Europe (741m), behind Andorra (highest), Switzerland, Austria and Turkey.

The North Macedonia Economic Investment Citizenship Programme

Applicants are required to make a minimum contribution of €200,000 in one of two North Macedonian social and development investment funds designated by the government. The funds aim to fuel the local economy and support social growth while entitling investors and their families to apply for North Macedonian citizenship (and ultimately receive a passport) that can be passed onto future generations.

A fee is due for processing/due diligence for the main applicant and any spouse or other dependant included in the application.

Application processing is expected to take only three to four months.

Benefits of North Macedonian Citizenship

  • Visa-free access to over 124 countries
  • Nationality that can be passed to future generations
  • Country growth potential – North Macedonia is an EU candidate
  • Dual citizenship permitted
  • Allows nationals the opportunity to apply for the US E-2 visa valid for up to 5 years

The Programme does not require any language skills or impose residence constraints. Citizens of North Macedonia have the flexibility to spend as little or as much time in the country as fits their lifestyle. One trip, however, is required to North Macedonia or one of its embassies to provide biometric data.

All applications must be submitted through an authorised agent.
